Ettore Bugatti found a sponsor for his own production in 1909. In an old colour-factory in Molsheim, a few km west from Strasbourg the production of the real Bugatti started.
The first series of Bugatti automobiles consisted of three models: Type 13, 15 and 17, where the difference was the wheelbase. Type 17 also had stronger back springs for heavy bodies.
In 1910 only a few cars were made, but recieved good reviews at the 1910 Paris Auto Show, and was often seen at the races.
In 1913 Types 15 and 17 became Types 22 and 23 respectively.
The Bugattis were rather highly priced, but was still a success, and several hundred cars were built until war broke out in 1914.
In this period Ettore Bugatti sold the production-rights of a small car to Peugeot.
After the war, Types 13, 22 and 23 where updated and became the famous Brescia Bugattis.
