HISTORY

It appears that no true Type 29 was ever produced, but four hybrid Type 29/30 racers where built for the 1922 Strasbourg Grand Prix. These had very characteristic "cigar" shaped bodies and finised 2nd, 3rd and ??. The "cigars" only appeared there and at the Italian GP the same year.
Neat features of these bodies where exhaust pipe ending in the center of the voluted "cigar" rear, and the horse shoe radiator sticking up through the body just enough to show the Bugatti emblem.
The engine was only accessible on carburetor side.

Two of these where later fitted with offset single seater bodies and raced in Indianapolis in 1923 without success.

These where the first eight cylinder Bugattis produced in a number more that one. (Previous eight cylinders were an experimental car with two four cylinder engines in-line and the Type 28 prototype.) The production version, Type 30, was introduced late that year, 1922.

TECHNICAL DATA

Practically identical to Type 30.
