Evolution Prototypes Racing Cars Production

Bernhard Simon & Julius Kruta

The first edition of our book on the Bugatti type 57S will come out in September 2003. If you have planned to visit Pebble Beach this year you may already have a look at a printed laser copy. You can order the book at Pebble or by returning this e-mail. About four weeks after the Pebble Beach event the finished book is going to be send out to you.

The book will be printed on 150g/qm art paper, pictures in satin print, sewing binding, linen tissue cover with relief printing.

The standard edition is limited to a 1000 unnumbered copies, it will have around 280 pages, about 110 pages of text, 360 pictures, among them 238 old period pictures, 137 of them unpublished, full page professional colour pictures, done by Martyn Goodard, Rune Baashus, Günther Krause, Winston Goodfellow, Michel Zumbrunn and H. D. Seufert, reproductions of unpublished works drawings and works documents and a set of reproductions of paintings by Paul Bouvot. The book is written in English language, professionally translated from our German script.

The leather bound edition is limited to 200 numbered copies and signed by the authors. The standard book will have the cover with the Bouvot picture. The luxury copy will have a cover made in "cuir pork", the most often used material for the interior of 57S cars. It will have a reproduction of the chassis drawing on it. The dust cover will be transparent and will show the drawing of an Atalante, so you will see the Atalante factory drawing and behind it the chassis drawing.

The book is based on the research of nearly two decades, including the works documents which have been available and reports of present owners and pre-owners. The book has been written in two parts, a reading part with all the discussions about the precursors of the Bugatti 57S type, the prototypes, works cars and racing cars and a register part with the history of all single production cars, including period pictures and recent pictures. In the annex there is a large data-sheets about all cars.
